paper 4 question 2
The English in our culture as well as language itself does directly shape our thoughts and how we communicate. Each language is different with cultural differences within each form of english that is being spoken. As each of us are born into different cultures with different families, each of us are affected differently by the form of speech taught by the parents who are teaching this language. An excerpt provided by stanford university presents and example and many samples of how we all share a similar opinion that language changes and shapes our thoughts.
As different structures in different forms of English are presented this changes the thought process of how the words are presented and left off during the speech process. In a standard english form one would say “She broke the cup.”’ as presented in the excerpt while a japanese speaker would say “The cup broke itself.” In the English form one is putting blame on a specific person who broke the cup. However, as the japanese speaker would put the blame on the cup for breaking itself with no specific blame to anyone. This is shown in the excerpt as well as in my writing that language does change how something thinks and perceives things as every form of language has different ways of speech and different ways to communicate.
Furthermore, a theory called The theory of Language and social equality represents the idea that the influence of language on people's thoughts is relevant to behavior. If people believe members of other social groups to be inferior, they may use inappropriate or negative language to express these thoughts. The excerpt provides the idea that within these roles, our thoughts are altered by our language choices. For example, “..differences in how cultures convey their relationship to concepts such as space, time or gender.” The world is made up of different cultures and beliefs and with those variables, there is a lot of code-switching which makes up for an effect on our thoughts. The article suggests that within different cultures different relationships tie into the theory of Language and social equality. This means that the excerpt highlights this theory in the idea that within different cultures there are different relationships and code-switching. Alternatively, the different language affects our thoughts.
Moreover, This theory is showing that different cultures stand out to different items and words used in speech. Each represents how one speaks differently and how one perceives language differently. This means that emotion is also related to showing how everyone perceives the language in a different way than others.
In the excerpt the writer presents an idea on how when speaking English and presenting a verb one is always speaking upon time. The example used was “I will make dinner” or “I made dinner” all in which is focusing on past present or future tenses which can change the way one thinks about something or a certain situation. Moreover, different languages are different when they use verbs as they may not be speaking upon a certain time that things are happening. For example one may say someone is doing something while not using a tense in the sentence.
Language is introduced to change people's opinions and how they perceive things. I presented theories and ways that language could be formed to make one think differently as the words change as well as the tenses and how people explain things. Languages all over the world has different patterns all used differently to express different emotions and cultures who teach these different languages.

You did a good job at demonstrating the variety of text and made sure to include points that were on task and made sense. Your writing was clear with good points of expression and occasional errors that didn't impede on the communication. All of the content was relevant and had developed clealy, not to mention you understanding of the linguistic issues and concepts. Although sometimes limited, you still used proper and relevant theory within your writing. You stated in the text, "Furthermore, a theory called The theory of Language..."
