  In the broadest view of the text in Unit 6 from A travel writer’s exploration of life in rural america the writer of the article begins his form of language in the text is a first person point of view in a past tense form. This is shown by the words expressed such as,”we went” and “My” Following this the author begins using a narrator's expressions and language as if he is telling a story that already happened or happened a long time ago. To add on to this as well the author uses very descriptive language in his extract to express the tone and setting of the story and what is going on.   To begin my analysis with the Excerpt,’ Shooting an Elephant’ the writer begins his writing with the use of first person narrative and continues this throughout the entire excerpt. The writer goes and uses past tense showing that he has already been through what the story is telling and he has already been through the excerpt. The author rotates between using longer and shorter sentences adding emotion to what the reader is saying. An example of this was,”His mouth was wide open- I could see far down into caverns of pale pink throat.” This adds emotion to the words used before and after due to the use of dramatic tone in shorter sentences.
