1st Blog on Writers use of language

The author uses a vast amount of language to describe what he is seeing in the setting of An Area of Darkness, which can vary the connection and effect on the reader. He uses minimum connection to emotive language however the author is very descriptive on what he is talking about. For example when the author states,¨the yellow mustard fields, the mountains, snow-capped, the milky blue sky in which we rediscovered the drama of clouds.¨ It makes me feel like I can see the milky blue sky and the yellow mustard fields, which kind of surrounds me in the story making me feel like I'm in a place where the reader is. In the second paragraph the reader states,¨smell in the cold air of charcoal, tobacco, cooking oil, months-old dirt,¨ when he is describing the smell At Qazigund. This adds feeling to the text and what is going on. The author's word choice and how descriptive he is does not change at all throughout the text and it stays consistent throughout the text.

One of the first things I noticed after reading the text is that the Author is writing in past tense throughout the entire story almost like he is still there telling his story as it goes. Normally when a author writes in past tense he keeps a distance between him and the story like he already went through what was happening, however when this author writes in past tense he makes everything in his word choice very descriptive like as if he was paying attention to every little detail of his life when it was going on.

Another big thing I noticed in the text was that it was written using first person perspective. Words used in the text showing this were ¨we¨ and ¨I¨ This changes my view on the text making me feel like i'm always there at text experiencing the reader's perspective. This also adds effectiveness to the writer's use of words making me feel like I can see and experience the writer's experiences. I think that was the purpose and goal of the writer. I think that he also wanted the reader of the text to experience his point of view with every detail the writer did while creating the text.
