Crucible Least to most Flawed

  Each character from the Crucible is flawed from most important to least important.

Flaws are defined as a mark, fault, or other imperfection that mars a substance or object. I believe everyone has a flaw whether it is in their appearance or personality. I will be discussing least flawed to most flawed in the play,”The Crucible.”

Firstly, the least flawed character in my opinion was Reverend Hale. I believe that he is least flawed because he values the truth and for this he is easily manipulated. I also believe that Reverend Hale is overconfident which can cause one or more people to be innocently killed if he are to make a mistake and not know it. A quote showing this is,”I beg you, woman, prevail upon your husband to confess. Let him give his lie. Quail not before God’s judgment in this” this shows he would rather the truth than a lie.

The next flawd is Mr.Putnam.Putnams flaw is that he is a greedy man who craves wealth. Mr.Putnam’s greed was to falsly accuse innocent people of whichcraft. A quote showing this in the text is “We vote by name in this society, not by acreage.” This will now lead me into my next point of view on who is 3rd most least flawed.

Thirdly, Mary Waren was following Mr.Putnam on the flaw chart due to the fact that she had multiple chances to achieve justice, but she was always too ignorant to see what she needed to see; causing everyone to be wrongfully convicted. In a quote said by Mary Waren, ”“I fear the other girls in the circle will make a mockery of me when I testify,”” this is showing that she is easily influence on what others think to make her own judgment on what she believes.

Fourthly,  getting to the more flawed characters; John Proctor was a big character with flaws because he was always wrapped up in a situation with his wife or abigail. He could never pick a side from the start. John proctor was the cause of a lot of trouble and was always in the middle of problems. A quote showing this is,”Abby, I may think of you softly from time to time. But I will cut off my hand before I'll ever reach for you again. Wipe it out of mind. We never touched, Abby.” This quote is also showing that he committed adultery and had an affair with abigail.

Fifthly, one of the most flawed characters was Paris. This is due to the fact that he is a selfish person with greed for money looking to do things for his own benefit. In a quote, ”I regard that six pound as part of my salary. I am paid little enough without I spend six pound on firewood.” This quote is backing up my first point on why I believe that reverend Paris is one of the more flawed characters.

Now moving onto my second most flawed character. Judge Danforth was stubborn to look at evidence and was clean to believe word of mouth by people in the courtroom. Judge Danforth was always stubborn and never trusted anyone elses word other than his. “You must understand, sir, that a person is either with this court or he must be counted against it,”This quote is showing how judge danforth was stubborn and only believed that being for or againsed was the only way to go. This is a big flaw because due to the judge being subborn 3 people got sentenced.

Now moving on to my most flawed charecter. Abigail Williams was most flawed due to her lust with Proctor and her inability to see that John Procter cannot be with her and has responsibility. Abigail williams was too busy chassing John Proctor that she lost focus in other people and was being completly selfish by blaming other people for her actions. In my oppinion Abigail Williams was most flawed due to her selfish and cruel acts.
